The FDA has issued a nationwide alert after multiple toddlers experienced airway blockage from Once Upon a Farm’s soft‑baked snack bars.

Key points

  • All Tractor Wheels soft‑baked bar flavors are part of the recall.
  • The choking risk stems from the bars forming a dry, sticky mass when chewed.
  • Once Upon a Farm is reformulating the product and offering refunds to affected families.

The Food and Drug Administration announced Friday that all varieties of Once Upon a Farm’s Tractor Wheels organic soft‑baked bars are being voluntarily recalled because they may pose a choking danger to children aged one to two.

According to the FDA, several reports described toddlers choking on the bars, which can turn into a dry, sticky mass that standard rescue techniques such as back blows or the Heimlich maneuver might not dislodge, sometimes requiring emergency medical care.

FDA warns of choking incidents

Once Upon a Farm confirmed it had received three choking reports and is working with the agency to remove the products from the market. The company’s co‑founder and CEO, John Foraker, said the brand will reformulate the bars to meet “the highest standards” after acknowledging that it “fell short” of parental expectations.

The recall includes every lot code, expiration date and flavor—Apple, Sweet Potato & Spinach; Strawberry, Pumpkin & Beet; and Banana, Pumpkin & Cauliflower—distributed through online channels, distribution centers and retail stores in 45 states and Puerto Rico. Retailers listed by the FDA include Costco, Target, Walmart and possibly Amazon and other third‑party sellers.

Company plans reformulation

Parents who have purchased the bars are advised not to feed them to children and to discard the product. Refunds are available with a receipt, or consumers can contact the company’s customer‑care team at care@uponafarm.com.
