A flood watch remains active for Cape Cod as heavy rain continues into the weekend, bringing up to six inches of rain in isolated spots.

Key points

  • A flood watch covers Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard until 10 a.m. Saturday.
  • Widespread rain totals of 2‑4 inches are expected, with isolated pockets of 5‑6 inches.
  • Temperatures will stay in the low 60s on Saturday before falling into the upper 50s by early next week.
  • No major service interruptions are anticipated, but drivers should avoid flooded roads.

Friday’s downpours that prompted a National Weather Service flood watch for Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard are expected to linger through the weekend, according to meteorologist Bryce Williams of the NWS Norton office.

Williams said the heaviest rain will fall across southeastern Massachusetts, with widespread totals of 2 to 4 inches and isolated amounts of 5 to 6 inches possible between Nov. 6 and Nov. 8. The rain has already caused flooding on Route 28 in Falmouth, submerging cars and prompting police to advise drivers to avoid certain streets.

Rainfall amounts and flood risk

The flood watch stays in effect until 10 a.m. Saturday. Rain is forecast to ease on Sunday, though scattered showers may linger. Temperatures are expected to be in the lower 60s on Saturday, dropping to the upper 50s by Nov. 8.

The National Weather Service’s Hyannis forecast calls for rain and a possible thunderstorm before 2 p.m. Saturday, with an 80 % chance of precipitation and up to half an inch of rain. A slight chance of rain persists after 3 a.m. Saturday night, followed by mostly sunny conditions on Sunday.

Hourly outlook for Hyannis

Officials say no essential services are expected to be disrupted despite the flood watch, but residents are urged to stay alert for localized flooding, especially near low‑lying roads and parking areas.
